Bonnie Brooke Divine Duell, age 82, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.
She was born on Tuesday, May 5,1942 in Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of the late Lee Byron Divine and Surene Montgomery Divine. She was a graduate of Henry Clay High School and attended Georgetown University in Georgetown, Kentucky. In 1964 she was married to Donald Lee Duell and they celebrated 53 years of marriage together prior to his death in 2017.
Bonnie was a pillar of strength and kindness within her family, her church, and the Somerset community. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, she was well known for her beautiful voice in the choir and her dedicated service as Director of the Nursery for babies and children, organizing the bereavement meals and various other ministries. Bonnie especially loved working with children, directing handbell choirs, sharing the gospel, and volunteering tirelessly in church programs. She was a loving, kindhearted and generous wife, mother, and grandmother. She won the natural affection of her grandchildren and to them she was more than a grandmother, they affectionately and passionately called her “Nana”.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband; Donald Duell, her parents; Lee Byron and Surene Divine; and her sister; Betsy Divine Gibson.
Bonnie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children; Byron and Jennifer Richey Duell., Brent and Jennifer Garner Duell, and Betsy Duell; her cherished grandchildren; Brooke Duell, Travis Duell, Alexander Duell, and Eli Duell, her nephews; Jeff (Laura) Gibson and Lee Gibson; and her great-niece; Anne-Claire Gibson.
Her warm spirit, boundless generosity, and attentive listening touched the lives of all who knew her.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church and again from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM with Dr. French Harmon and Pastor Ryan Coffey Officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
