With profound sadness, we announce the passing of David Roland "Monk" Padgett, age 74, of Somerset, Kentucky, who peacefully passed away on March 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on May 24, 1951, in Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Jack and Virginia Padgett. He was a proud member of the Somerset High School Class of 1969, where he was known as an outstanding student and athlete. It was during these years that he earned the nickname "Monk," a name that stayed with him throughout his life.
After graduation, David honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for eight years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant while stationed in Del Rio, Texas.
Following his service, David dedicated over 40 years to the car business, where he became a respected manager and built lasting relationships with both coworkers and customers. His strong work ethic was only matched by the way he treated people-with kindness, honesty, and genuine care.
David truly enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson, watching drag racing, hosting cookouts, enjoying fireworks, watching The Andy Griffith Show, and spending quiet time on his back porch. Above all, his most treasured moments were those spent with his family, especially his son, Adam, his daughter-in-law Sarah, and his beloved granddaughter, Elise.
Dave had a giving and caring heart, always putting others before himself. He had a way of making people feel valued and supported, and his presence brought comfort and strength to those around him. All who knew him loved him, and he will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Ford.
He is survived by his son, Adam Padgett and wife Sarah of Somerset; his cherished granddaughter, Elise Padgett of Somerset; two brothers, Jack Padgett and wife Susan of Somerset, and Chuck Padgett and Sondra King of Corbin; two sisters, Libby Weigel and husband Joe of Somerset, and Susan Hadley and husband Gary of Russell Springs; along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Friday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
