Doris Rose Merrick

July 25, 1935 — June 8, 2025

Doris Rose Merrick, age 89, of Nancy, KY, went to be with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at her home surrounded by family.

Doris was born on July 25, 1935 to the late Tye Stevenson and Hattie Burton Stevenson. She married her sweetheart, Lowell Merrick on December 24, 1954 and together they built a good life, anchored in faith. Doris was unwavering in her devotion to her family, and to God, and lived her life as a testament to Him. She was a proud member of the Okalona Missionary Baptist Church in Nancy, KY where she served in many ways over the years. Doris had a love of books and learning and shared that through the church as librarian. She also instilled a love of reading in others, often from her porch swing with a child in her lap and a book to share in her loving hands. She was quick to tell you that the written word in a book can be a window to the world, and the Bible is our road map to navigate by. She was a strong woman that loved her family fiercely, and was proud of each of them for their unique abilities. She was never too busy to stop and listen, and loved to celebrate others as they shared about their lives, plans for the future, or even their troubles. An invaluable mentor to those she loved. As her husband would say, “they are all Nannie’s babies and she is proud of them all.” Doris had a love of music and enjoyed playing the piano. She had a green thumb and loved to tend her flowers and garden, enjoyed photographing nature, painting and crochet, traveling, taking care of her cats, and spending time with family. She enjoyed life at her own pace and would often say “Don't rush me.” She had an eye for sparkly things and loved finding beautiful pieces of antiques and jewelry. “She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.” -Proverbs 3:15 Like her husband Lowell, she took every available opportunity to lift others up in life and make a difference where she could. Together they spent their lives being the hands and feet of Jesus.

She is survived by one son, Steven (Carolyn) Merrick of Nancy; three daughters, Sharon (Rodney) Dalton of Nancy, Stephanie (Curt) Woodson of Georgetown, and Sabrina Merrick of Nancy; four brothers, Charles (Mary Beth) Stevenson of Nancy, Harold (Rhoda Jane) Stevenson of Clarksville, TN, Stanley (Linda) Stevenson of Nancy, and Leland (Nancy) Stevenson of Nancy, one sister-in-law, Bonnie Stevenson of Nancy; nine grandchildren, Nathaniel Merrick (Hannah Watts), Brandon (Myriam) King, Travis (Deanna) King, Tamsen (Steven) Ryan, Heather Lawhorn, Clinton (Katie) Woodson, Kyle (Natasha) Woodson, Darrell (Jaclyn) McGahan and Trevor McGahan (Carly Kenn); and fifteen great grandchildren, Haley King, Ethaniel Merrick, Hudson Merrick, Beau Merrick, Henley King, Owen King, Bailey Ryan (Callie Casteel), Savannah Ryan, Madison Ryan, Kelsey Lawhorn, Jax Lawhorn, Griffin Woodson, Jett Woodson, Amelia McGahan and Parker McGahan; and one great-great granddaughter, LaurelRose.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Wendle Merrick on October 18, 2020; two brothers, Samuel Leonard Stevenson, and Lyle (Nettie) Stevenson; and one sister, Zella Rogers.

Make time to mentor and pray to and for those that you love and we will all see one another again on the streets of Heaven in Glory with Doris and Lowell if you lead by the example Christ has given us.

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever." -Isaiah 40:8

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." -Psalm 23:6
