Mrs. Elizabeth Burton, age 89, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in the Hospice unit at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born on July 25, 1935 in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Lunar Merrick and Mary Merrick.
She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, and a member of Anna’s Daughters. She worked at Cumberland Wood & Chair in Somerset, Kentucky as a cook. She enjoyed going to church, ceramics, quilting, fishing, cooking, playing cards and board games, watching UK basketball, and loved being with, and surrounded by, her family and friends.
Mrs. Burton is survived by her children, Albert Lee (Sharon) Burton of Somerset, Dianna (Bobby) Sexton of Science Hill, Sheila (Larry) Franklin of Nancy, and Russell (Trisha) Burton of Somerset; grandchildren, Michelle (Rodney) Luttrell of Somerset, Chris (Stephanie) Burton of Missouri, Shawn (Vickie) of Richmond, KY, Dwain (Liz) of Columbia, KY, Jason (Angela) Burton of Somerset, Misty (Andy) Richmond of Somerset, Beth (Keli) Branum of Missouri, Brittany (Aaron) Robertson of Nancy; 18 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Charlotte Wheeldon of Somerset and sister-in-law, Nancy Merrick of Somerset.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lunar and Mary Merrick; her husband, Albert Burton; siblings, Ruth Daulton, Elva Burton, Odell Merrick, Delno Merrick, Jewell Jones, Edith Pierce, Lunar Merrick, Jr., Garvel Merrick, and Opal Tarter.
Visitation will be held on the 30th day of January, 2025, at Oak Hill Baptist Church, from 6pm to 9p.m.
Visitation will resume on the 31st day of January, 2025, at Oak Hill Baptist Church, from 9a.m. to 1p.m., at Oak Hill Baptist Church, with a funeral service to begin at 1p.m., with Bro. Alan Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Luttrell, Dwain Sexton, Andy Richmond, Keli Branum, Chris Burton, Jason Burton, Aaron Robertson and Brad Burton, along with Honorary Pallbearer, Kaden Branum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gideon Memorial Bibles or Oak Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
