James Allen “Jim” Brown, age 87, of Somerset passed from this life unexpectedly on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born on September 30, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Oliver James Brown and Vera Helen Burton Brown. Jim was a member of the 1954 graduating class of Somerset High School, He furthered his career at Eastern Kentucky University earning a Bachelor’s degree. Jim became a proficient radio broadcaster who displayed his professional, technical and excellent communication skills. Jim spent several years as a radio broadcaster with the local WSFC radio station and was a dedicated co-owner and broadcaster with WTLO for a number of years, prior to his retirement. He was also a past President of the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, was active in the Rotary Club and had a genuine compassion for community activities. His distinctive, compassionate and articulate voice resonated through the radio waves and throughout the surrounding regions and he will long be remembered.
Jim enjoyed golfing, boating, biking and had a genuine passion for “Jazz” music, he was always enthusiastic about being outdoors. He was a kind-hearted, generous and a loving father and grandfather. Jim was of the Christian Faith and member of the First Christian Church. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother; Garry Brown.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, three devoted daughters; Kippe (Daniel) Burnett and Lenore (John Scott) DeBord all of Somerset, Kentucky and Kimberly Jane (Steve) Anderson of Danville, Kentucky, two grandchildren; John Ross DeBord of Lexington, Kentucky and Olivia Burnett of Somerset, Kentucky, two brothers; Ronald Brown of San Antonio, Texas and Steve (Myrna) of Olympia, Washington, three sisters; Linda Ralston of St. Petersburg, Florida, Betty (Kenny) Patchell of Batavia, Ohio and Vickie Brown of Lexington, Kentucky, along with several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Saturday, April 19, 2025 in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 am in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Christopher Basil Officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
