Josephine Burdine, age 87, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 4, 1938, in Nancy, Kentucky, Josephine was the daughter of the late Olen Burton and Lennie Dalton Burton. She was a devoted member of Okalona Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, sharing her faith and kindness with all who knew her.
Josephine was a hardworking and dedicated woman throughout her life. She was employed at Palm Beach for several years and later worked as a cook at Southern Middle School for the Pulaski County Board of Education. Outside of her work, she found joy in camping and cooking, but nothing meant more to her than time spent with her family. Her home was filled with love, warmth, and care, and she will be remembered for her gentle spirit and devotion to those she loved.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, B.J. Burdine, whom she married on March 17, 1956, in Somerset; her son, Donald “Donnie” Wayne (Carylon) Burdine of Somerset; her daughters, Debra “Debbie” Jo (Iven) Buster of Somerset and Tamara “Tammy” Lynn (Steve) Jenkins of Somerset; and her cherished granddaughter, Megan (Justin) Lane of Nancy.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her infant son, William Allen Burdine; her brother, Donald Burton; and her sisters, Betty Love and Doris Hudson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, with Bro. Gerald Ashley officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Brent Raney, Justin Lane, Steve Burton, Scott Burton, Tony Burton and Bro. Stanley Stevenson.
