Juanita Meece

March 24, 1928 — December 14, 2025

Our beloved, Juanita Jane (Brown) Meece passed away peacefully at her home in Somerset, KY, on 12/14/2025.

She was born on March 24, 1928 to David and Flora Mae Hurst Brown from the Woodstock Community and was raised by her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Brown, when her own mother tragically died when Juanita was just a toddler. She was married to Everette J. Meece, on January 10, 1950 in Oneida, TN. She spent her days selflessly serving and loving her family and others. She loved growing flowers, gardening, canning and quilting - all the things that would help her care for her family and in later years, she loved feeding and watching the birds while listening to Dial a Deal. Through the years she helped raise several children including her sister, Dorothy's children: Annette (Estes) Starnes and Larry Estes and her very best friend, Hettie Cowan's two sons: Bruce and Steve (or Stevie as she always called him), who always said they were her sons of another mother. She and Hettie shared life together for several years and loved each other deeply. As her own children grew up, she joyfully kept her grandchildren, Greg, Chris and Casey. They loved her so much and their parents never had to worry about their children being loved and cared for while they worked. Her family enjoyed many Sunday dinners, which she cooked before going to church and in the afternoon everyone sat outside watching the kids play. One of her greatest joys was attending Calvary Baptist Church, where she was the oldest charter member and where many looked forward to her chicken and dumplings and dried apple fried pies at the potluck dinners. As she and Everette became older and the Calvary carolers came to sing at Christmas, she enjoyed making her famous no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies to share. It was difficult to tell who enjoyed it most! She also enjoyed watching the UK Wildcats basketball team and kept up with them to the end.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Danny (and Shelia) Meece, Rick (and Joan) Meece, Teresa (and Jeff) Claunch; two grandchildren and spouses, Christopher Ryan (and Amber) Meece and Casey Logan Claunch; three great-grandchildren, Addison Paige Meece, Asher Cole Meece, and Blair R. Claunch, two step great-grandchildren, Adrien Pocasongra and Eden Coleman; and two step great-great grandchildren, Tatum Marie and Wyatt Wayne Caffey. She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Brown Estes, of Somerset, and a special "daughter" Cherri Crawford Childers who seemed like one of her own, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, her parents, and her stepmother, Esther Brown, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Gregory Allen Meece, who she missed greatly as she had enjoyed preparing lunch for him almost daily for several years. She was also preceded in death by siblings: William Brown, Roberta Brown Newman, Charles Brown, David Edward "Buddy" Brown, Norma Brown Newberry, Donald Brown and stepbrother Lloyd Thompson.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 17th at 3:00 PM for the family and 4:00-7:00 PM for friends at Pulaski Funeral Home on 165 Hwy. 2227.

The funeral will be Thursday, December 18th at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Austin Upchurch officiating.

Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
