Mary June Hines

Mary June Hines, 93 of Somerset, passed from this life on Monday, April 1, 2025 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center after an extended illness.

She was born on October 10, 1931 in the Stab Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Rev. Bert Whitaker and Lula Mize Whitaker. June as she was affectionately called by those knew and loved her was a graduate of Shopville High School class of 1949. She was also a graduate of the Cumberland Beauty School and became an entrepreneur in the Cosmetology field. She was the owner/operator of the Beauty Salon “Perfect Performance” for a number of years prior to her retirement. June was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset. She was an avid U of K Basketball fan and Bridge player. June was a socialite and always enjoyed a good conversation and sharing that infectious smile. She shared a special love and close bond with her grandchildren, June was a loving, kind-hearted and generous person and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband; Robert Hines, as well as her siblings; Denton Whitaker, Orvis Whitaker, Clinton Odell Whitaker, Jetta Whitaker and Jewell Whitaker.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son; Rodney (Lissa) Hines of Hoover, Alabama, a sister; Lois Adams of Somerset, Kentucky, two grandchildren; Jay Hines of Birmingham, Alabama and Katie (Nick) Safford of Auburn, Alabama and a great-grandchild; June Safford as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Family and Friends will gather for a Visitation on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Somerset, 128 North Main Street, Somerset, Kentucky. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 3:00 pm at the church with Bro. David Pendley Officiating. Private inurnment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
