Mildred Petrey

Mildred Petrey, age 91, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

Mildred was born on December 9, 1934 in Madison County, KY to the late Millard Rankin and Ada Bell Martin Rankin. She was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and over the years she helped feed many children in the church kitchen. Early in life she worked as a secretary, Avon representative and cared for her aging parents. After her father’s death at the age of 96, she moved to the farm in Somerset. Then she enjoyed gardening, painting and helping friends and family.

She is survived by one stepson, Vernon (Jody) Petrey Jr. of Burnside; several nieces, nephews and other family members, including a special niece, Margo Bisset of Lexington, KY. She was an Honorary member of the Crawford family and her best friend, Edna Crawford, of Somerset survives her. Joe and her niece, Margo helped care for her at the end of her life.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Petrey, whom she married on December 9, 1977 in Madison County and he preceded her on September 16, 2021; one daughter, Debbra Jones; her first husband, Roland Jones; three brothers, Joe Rankin, Roy Rankin and Carl Rankin; and five sisters, Thelma Alridge, Rena Burress, Loretta Rankin, Sarah Henderson and Norma Cain.

A Graveside service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 2:00pm at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Bro. Rick Shannon will officiate the service.
