It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nell Fain of Somerset, Kentucky. Nell passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, at the age of 85. She was born on October 15, 1939, in Manila, Arkansas to the late H. T. and Lillian Chapin.
Nell was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, and friend, whose unwavering love and wisdom shaped the lives of everyone around her. She was a constant source of support and encouragement, whose love and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She found joy in spending time with family and friends, and her passions included watching sports, especially the UK men's basketball team, gardening, birdwatching, and quilting. Her hand-stitched quilts and thoughtful gifts will continue to be cherished by her family for generations.
She took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, passing on the wisdom she had gained through a lifetime of experience and provided a constant source of encouragement to them. Her children and grandchildren will forever carry with them the lessons she imparted and the example she set through her love and her actions.
Nell was also a lifelong servant of God. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Somerset, where she served for many years, including as a Sunday School teacher for over two decades. She helped nurture the faith of many and her humble heart and steadfast trust in God were evident in everything she did.
Her faith was not only the foundation of her life but also the source of strength and peace she freely shared with others.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Lake Cumberland for their compassionate care during Nell's final days.
She is predeceased by her parents, H. T. Chapin and Lillian Chapin; her husband, "Bill Sr." William Fain; and her siblings, James "Sonny" Chapin (Sharon), Lovina Clark, and Venita Abercrombie.
She is survived by her children, "Bill Jr." William Fain, Sherry Dick, and Kerry Fain; her grandchildren, Heather (Eric) Surber, Jacob Dick, Hunter (Macy) Fain, Gracie Fain, David (Macaela) Fain, and Emma (Jeff) Berger; her great grandchildren, Sophia, Oscar, and Jasper; and siblings Jimmy (Sue) Chapin, and Judy Gardner.
