Renee Dawn Long

January 16, 1971 — July 25, 2025

Renee Dawn Long, age 54 of Somerset, passed away on Friday, July 25th, 2025 in Lexington, Ky. Renee was born on January 16th, 1971 in West Virginia to Lillian and Roger Ellis. She had fond memories of her childhood in the mountains, growing up with her sister April and brother Roger (“Rogie”), and spending time with family and friends. She also loved being an aunt to her nephews, Gage and Blake, whom she loved with all her heart.

Renee married David Long on September 14th, 2013. They shared a beautiful life together, spending time in the hills of Kentucky and the Florida coast with their beloved yellow labrador, Gibbs. She gained two stepdaughters and friends, Megan (Michael Brown) and Erin Long and became “NaeNae” to her two grandchildren, Mack and Louisa.

Throughout her life, Renee’s career and volunteering efforts were spent in the service of others. She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Somerset and volunteered for many years at God’s Food Pantry. She lived a life of deep faith and trust in God, and she appreciated and found awe in all of His creations — from the beautiful mountains in Tennessee and her native West Virginia, to every plant she lovingly grew and every creature that crossed her path. Renee loved all animals, and she cared for as many as she could.

Renee was a creative person and loved journaling, coloring, trying a new craft, and writing letters to friends. She was an avid reader and had a love of history and all things vintage and antique, often bringing home unique treasures for family and friends.

Renee had a rare gift for making others, even strangers, feel special, understood, and deeply loved. People were drawn to her joy and kindness—a bright light to everyone who met her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her beloved husband, David Long; her stepdaughters, Erin Long and Megan Long (Michael Brown). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Henry Mackay and Louisa Ebbitt. She is survived by her cherished sister, April Chambers, her nephew Blake Chambers, and Shawnetta Brumley. She is also survived by her nephew Gage Chambers and his wife Alexandra (Alex). She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Roger “Rogie” Ellis; her niece, Chilio Ellis; her nephew, Brandon Ellis and his wife Mckinley; as well as countless friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lillian and Roger Ellis of West Virginia and her mother-in-law, Elizabeth E. Long of Somerset, Ky.
