Timothy Dewayne "Tim the Tool Man" Taylor, age 63, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Tim was born on December 13, 1962, in Somerset, Kentucky, the son of Sherman Dewayne Taylor and Joan Whitis Taylor. He was a 1980 graduate of Pulaski County High School, where he was actively involved in 4-H and FFA.
Tim was of the Baptist faith and served as pastor of Whetstone Baptist Church during the late 1980s. He was also a faithful member of Pine Hill Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School teacher. Faith and family were important to Tim. He took every opportunity to share his faith, offer words of encouragement and to share his take on life’s lessons.
Tim was formerly a dairy farmer and the owner and operator of Tim Taylor Trucking. After retiring from truck driving, he continued doing what he enjoyed by working as an engine builder.
Dirt track racing had been Tim's passion since he began driving in the early 1990s. Most weekends, he could be found at the track, where he remained an active driver and avid fan. Within the racing community, Tim was known for his willingness to help anyone in need while sharing his love for the Lord and offering encouragement to those around him. He cherished the many friendships he formed through racing over the years.
Tim leaves behind his mother, Joan Taylor of Science Hill; two daughters, Amanda Martin (Brian) of Somerset and Tabitha Brock (J.R.) of Eubank; one son, Caleb Taylor of Danville; four grandchildren, Kasen Brock, Kain Martin, Kinsley Brock, and Kailyn Brock, who lovingly called him "PaPa"; two brothers, David Taylor (Karen) of Somerset and Larry Taylor (Beckie) of Eubank; one sister, Jill Shadoan (Tim) of Somerset; nieces and nephews, Zachary Taylor, Latosha Schanbach (Tyler), Taylor Shadoan, and Hayden Shadoan (Kayla); as well as a host of extended family members, church family, neighbors, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Dewayne Taylor; his paternal grandparents, Arvil and Lura Taylor; and his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Edna Whitis.
Visitation for Tim will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Kentucky 42503.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Meece and Bro. Don Branscum officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
