Wanda Johnson

Wanda L. Johnson, age 81, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed from this life on January 24, 2025 at Jean Waddle Care Center.

Wanda was born on June 24, 1943 to the late James “Brack” Burton and Matra Hatter Burton in Somerset, Kentucky.

She was a member of New Beginnings Worship Center Church of God Prophecy. She loved children, tending to her flower garden, and working in her church nursery. Any child that walked past her put a smile on her face. She worked for 30 years as an operator and dispatcher for General Telephone Company.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Christopher L. Cook.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 56 years, Ray Johnson, sisters: Catherine Cooper (Don) of Science Hill, Ky; Mary Ellen Black of Somerset, Ky and Betty Louise Cook of Science Hill, Ky; nephews and nieces: Byron Blevins (Tina), Ronda Cooper Soler, Eddie Cook and Tammy Godbey (Donnie), great-nieces and nephews: Whitney Browning (Scott), , Tyler R. Blevins, Tanner Baker, Blake Turner, Micah R. Cook, Carter Cook, Betty Barnum and Donnie Barnum. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 5pm in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 12:30pm with Pastor Stacy Tuttle officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Wanda L. Johnson.
