Wanda Oney

Wanda Arlene Sexton Oney, age 99, of Somerset, KY, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 12, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Akron, Ohio, on July 21, 1926, a daughter of the late Berry Frank and Nellie Griffith Sexton. She was later married to Harold Oney Sr. on June 1, 1946, in Rossville, Ga. And to this union four children were born: Harold Lloyd Oney Jr. of Lexington, KY, Patricia Oney Kinman (Greg) of Pleasant View, TN, Brenda Oney Windedahl(Bruce) of St. Augustine, FL, and Donald Oney of Somerset, KY.

Wanda is survived by one sister, Reba Sexton McCullough of Clinton, TN, and grandchildren: Harold Oney III, Marsha Long, John Kinman, Jason and Matthew Windedahl, Heather Dooley, and 14 great-grandchildren. And one great-great-grandchild. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters; Irene Edwards, Gladys Howard, Glenda Litton, and one brother who died during childbirth.

Wanda was a very active person even in her later years, being able to care for herself and her home, garden, and even mowing her own yard in her 90s. She loved working in her flower garden and quilting; she made over 52 quilts, was a great cook, sewed, even made draperies for others, fished, and was on the lake. Most of all, she loved her church, Cornerstone Baptist Church, and she attended as long as her health permitted.

A service honoring the life of Wanda Arlene Sexton Oney will be held at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking and Crematory on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM with the Rev. William Edward Brown Officiating. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Entombment will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
